HAIR AND NAIL GROWTH IN SECOND TRIMESTER

Constipation, heartburn and swollen, achy feet, might make you feel like your pregnancy hormones are going to make your life miserable. There are a few good side effects when you’re expecting, too, which make you HAPPY.

By 20 weeks of pregnancy, your nails are likely to grow quicker than usual — and faster than you can manicure them. But they might feel slightly more soft, dry or brittle.

As for your hair is concerned, it might feel thicker and look more shiny and healthy than usual and probably growing faster too . It may also change in texture — straight hair might become curly, and vice versa.

Adversely you may suddenly hair strands sprouting in places you’d rather not, including your face, back, nipples and stomach . But don’t worry- most of the excess hair should fall out within six months of child birth.

What causes these changes :

Pregnancy hormones bring the changes in your nail and hair growth during pregnancy, making your hair grow faster and be less likely to fall out.

Increased blood circulation and increased metabolism bring more nutrients to your hair and nails

causing these changes.

What you should know :

Keep in mind that like all other pregnancy symptoms, the changes to your hair and nails are temporary and your nails will likely return to their normal growth rate and texture within three to six months after delivery.

REMEMBER, don’t get too attached to your lovely hair .

Once your baby is born, all that hair that didn’t fall out during pregnancy will , making you wonder whether you’ll need to reach your doctor.

How to care for all that extra hair during pregnancy :

1.Keep steady while rinsing or blowing hair as simple moves, like leaning back to rinse your hair or bending over to blow it dry, may potentially be dangerous if you lose your balance.

2.Take your time as there is a potential for postural hypotension — the drop in blood pressure and dizziness that can result when you bend over and get up quickly.

3.Stay cool. As your body temperatures are already high, don’t make yourself even hotter by setting your dryer on high with the bathroom door closed. Instead opt for the warm setting and leave the door open so cool air can circulate. This will help you to avoid getting clammy or dizzy , and might just reduce the frizz factor too.

4.Remove hair carefully. Not all hair removal methods are safe in pregnancy, so make sure to follow safe hair removal methods during pregnancy.
