Adolescent period, as defined by the government of India ranges from 13- 19 years.

Adolescence means “ TO GROW UP”.

This is the most crucial period in the child’s life as the transition from Childhood to Adulthood takes place.

Many physical, sexual, psychological and sexual developmental changes happen, almost at the same time.

This transitional development poses a great risk to the health and wellness of the child.

Adolescent girl is beautifully said as “No longer a child, not yet a women”

The common gynaecological problems faced by the adolescent girls are :

  1. Menstrual disorders –  Most common problem for which medical advise is taken.
  2. Severe pain in the lower abdomen- may or may not be related to the menstrual cycle
  3. Leucorrhoea or Excess vaginal discharge
  4. PCOD
  5. Pelvic tumors like ovarian cysts
  6. Infections- PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease)
  7. Breast related problems
  8. Acne 
  9. Unwanted facial and body hair
  10. Obesity
  11. Associated psychological problems – due to body shaming

Each and every problem needs utmost attention, should be evaluated in detail and systematically so that a proper advise and guidance can be given, as this period has a great impact on the future development of the child.
